Released: 7/11/2008
Installed on: 8/5/2008 1:00 pm

New reference and procedural information for system administration users has been added to ProgressBook WebHelp v8.0, in addition to updated help topics for teachers.

The following issues have been addressed in this release:

Administrative Issues

For school districts that integrate with the DASL, McSIS, eSIS or SMS student information systems and use live attendance data integration, the following error, "ProgressBook was not able to link to (name of your SIS). Please contact your system administrator if the problem continues." displays if ProgressBook is not able to connect to your student information system and display the live attendance information from that system while taking attendance on the Daily Attendance and Daily Attendance by Seating Chart screens.

You can take daily attendance on the Absence Queue screen when the screen has been customized to hide the Schools column.

An error no longer occurs on the Staff screen when searching for a staff member with an apostrophe ( ' ) in the last name.

An error no longer occurs on the Course screen when searching for a course if no search results are returned. The message No Matches Found displays.

For school districts that integrate with all student information systems, ProgressBook correctly identifies the appropriate default grading scale.

For school districts that integrate with all student information systems except for McSIS, ProgressBook supports decimal places when using the percent mark type on report cards.

For school districts that integrate with the DASL student information system, an error no longer occurs when compiling a report card that uses the Numeric with Overrides (RptCards Only) graphical user interface (GUI) mark type.

For ProgressBook users logged in as Principal or Clerk, a student's schedule displays properly on the Student Schedule window when accessed from the Absence Queue screen or Attendance by Student List screen and the Show Hidden Classes option is no longer selected by default.

An error no longer occurs when users who don't have classes assigned to them access the Period Attendance screen from the Teacher Home Page. The following message displays, "No valid classes were found for this teacher. Please contact your administrator to report any problems."

Courses that are marked on the Update Courses window to be ungraded or excluded from the Parent Access Web Site do not display on the Report Card section on the Student tab on the Parent Access Web Site.

ProgressBook no longer supports Parent Access Web Site versions prior to 3.0.

ProgressBook 8.0 WebHelp displays properly in Safari 3.0 and all Firefox browsers in Macintosh, but does not display properly in Safari 1.x and 2.x.

Teacher Issues

The Student Progress Report displays properly when accessed from the View Progress link on the Schedule tab on the Student Profile screen.

The Student Progress Report by Assessments displays properly when accessed from the View Progress Report link on the Assessments tab on the Student Profile screen for classes using Grading Scale Custom Setup 2 Option.

The Student Progress Report displays properly when using reporting period names longer than 30 characters.

The Lesson Plan report displays lesson plans sorted first by class and then by the date taught.

The Content Taught (Listing taught standards) and Content Taught (Listing all standards) Lesson Plan reports calculate totals based on the number of days the class in which the lesson plan is taught meets.

The date that displays on the Daily Comments window when accessed from the Grade Book Grid is the date that the comment was entered.

For school districts that calculate semester and final averages to three decimal places, if a student's average is the same as the beginning number of the grading scale range, the correct letter grade is assigned to the student and not the letter grade of the range below the correct one.

For school districts that print report cards from ProgressBook, teachers can enter multiple comments for a class in a reporting period and they now display in the Teacher Comments area on the report card.

Teachers can enter comments on the Report Card Entry screen for classes in which there is an apostrophe ( ' ) in the district class ID or section description.

Errors no longer occur on the Information section of the Classroom tab on the Parent Access Web Site, when you create an attachment but do not upload it and when you create a link to a web site but do not include the URL on the Class Home Page Maintenance screen.

Attendance displaying in random order on the Attendance tab on the Student Profile screen has been corrected to display in descending order.

Since period attendance can only be taken on a day that a class is scheduled to meet, “Not scheduled” displays if you enter an invalid date on the Period Attendance screen.

You can no longer set an assignment due date to occur before an assignment start date on the Assignment Details and Assignment Marks screens.

The following enhancements have been made in this release:

Administrative Enhancements

School calendars have been enhanced to include instructional cycles, a customizable set of days that school meets during the week. The default cycle, Monday – Friday is set up at installation. You should assign an instructional cycle to your school’s calendar when you are setting it up at the beginning of the school year, but can also reassign cycle days in an instructional cycle associated with a specific calendar at any time during the school year in the event that school did not meet because of a weather emergency, for example.

The Transfer Staff Activity option has been added to ProgressBook to allow users to transfer classes, lesson plan banks, assignment banks and homework banks that are associated with one staff member to another staff member. It may be necessary in some circumstances to transfer a staff member's activity to another staff member before deleting the staff member.

The Delete Staff option has been enhanced to delete all of the activity such as lesson plans, assignments, assignment types, homework, Parent Access Web Site home pages, SSEM Comments and SSEM Locked Forms, associated with the staff member upon deletion of the staff member. However, the staff member cannot be deleted if they are still associated with classes.

The Standards Based Grade Book Configuration Utility has been added to ProgressBook. This utility is accessible from the Report Cards screen and allows system managers to set up teachers' grade books to automatically use the Grading Scale Custom Setup 2 option.

The search criteria on the Parent Access Account Maintenance screen and Student Search window has been updated.

Student information has been added when you place your cursor over a student's name on the Update Users window when updating Parent Access Accounts.

The Parent Access version number has been added to the Districts Login screen on the Parent Access Web Site.

The Geometric Shapes template piece for the 8.5 x 11 portrait, 8.5 x 14 portrait and 11 x 17 landscape report cards has been added.

For school districts that keep report card grade entry periods open all school year, the current grading period is determined by the report card publish date and not the report card entry end date. However, if the report card publish date is blank, the report card entry end date will be used. The current grading period based on this date is displayed on the Averages section on the Student tab on the Parent Access Web Site, as well as on the Exclude Lowest Marks screen.

Teacher Enhancements

The average percent displays for each assignment on the Grade Book Grid.

The Exclude Lowest Marks option has been enhanced to exclude lowest marks for one or more classes and class groups.
